You have probably been through Vogel Center if you:
-
- Were going 'Up North' and were looking for the hunter's supper.
- Went thru stoney corners when you meant to turn towards Lucas.
- Were taking a short cut to Houghton Lake.
- Wanted to go swimming in the Clam River.
- Wanted to hear a good preacher.
- Were looking for Miss DeLeeuw's class room.
- Were on your way to Mount Baldy.
- Got lost on your way to the Falmouth fireworks, Marion tractor pulls, the Merritt Speedway, or the McBain big day celebration.
- Wanted to play on a good softball team.
- Were eager to hear some great singing in church.
- Were on your way to Ben Bouwer's store.
- Were headed to the dump north of town to look for treasures or shoot rats, not necessarily in that sequence.
It has been said that Vogel Center was not the end of the world but you could see it from there. I would disagree, of course.
The population of Vogel Center is definitely in double digits but if everyone that had been born there would have stayed along with all their descendents, the population would rivaled that of China, or somewhere there abouts.
